Condo Entourage
The Wall Street Journal recently reported that Spidey star Tobey Maguire has now followed pal Leonardo DiCaprio in acquiring a cool Sin City crash pad. Both actors have purchased apartments in the new condominium called Panorama, one of many residential projects filling lots near the Strip. So, you ask, just what does Young Hollywood see in this particular apartment complex? To help answer this riddle we go inside to give you a closer look.
UPDATE: Following on the heels of DiCaprio and Maguire in buying one of these condos, according to the Journal, is top-heavy pin-up Pamela Anderson. She bought a 3-bedroom in tower two.
Leo, who bought his 3,000 square foot unit first, played a young ambitious Howard Hughes in the biopic The Aviator. Now he'll have a chance to play an older paranoid Hughes ensconced high above Las Vegas in one of these spare glass towers. Developed by Lawrence Hallier and nightclub impresario Andrew Sasson, Panorama will actually comprise three towers. Toby Maguire followed Leo and upped the ante by buying two units in the third tower, still yet to begin construction, for a combined 3,600 square feet. The entire development is now sold-out. (DiCaprio also recently bought the penthouse in the Hudson Blue condo rising in New York's West Village, a project we first wrote about here.)
As you can see, it's a sleek production, with plenty of lounge areas for after-after parties. Designed by Graft architects (resposible for Brad Pitt's hard-edged LA studio) along with Klai Juba Architects, the project is a glassy contemporary take on mid-century resort life, without being kitschy cute. Brad Pitt and George Clooney, in the wake of all the buzz about how much cash the Malouf brothers have generated off the Palms, are reportedly in the process of developing their own Vegas resort, details of which are still sketchy. We have no doubt, however, that when it arrives it will be the place to stay. Still, we can understand how frequent Vegas visitors might not want to sleep on a hotel mattress every time they jet into town. Owning your own crash pad has its advantages.
Tens of thousands of new condo units are slated to soon go up in Las Vegas, and the place is often cited as one of the most overheated markets--even by those who scoff at the notion of a housing bubble. We've looked at many of the other new projects and found them sorely wanting in terms of design. Most are undistinguished, sometimes garish, glitzy boxes that fail to take the obvious natural cues from their cool desert location. There is one project, however, that we give very high marks to, and we will reveal which one soon in a future write-up here at Triple Mint. So bookmark this page: www.triplemint.com.
