397 West 12th Street in Manhattan's far West Village is a 10-story, five-unit
building. Each apartment will be as large as 6,600 square feet and will
be left as raw space. The asking prices are expected to range between
$5.5 million and $14 million. The structure will house just four residential units in addition to the
commercial ground floor. It will be topped off by a dramatic 6,600-square-foot
quadruplex penthouse that includes an additional 3,000 square feet of
outdoor space. Cary Tamarkin is the building's architect and developer. Mr Tamarkin has a history of building condo lofts as raw space, which is a departure from the more common amenity-laden developments we've seen recently. In this category buyers tend to rip everything out anyway. This approach provides a rare blank canvas, but requires an owner who can handle finishing the space on their own. The best amenity here is, of course, the Hudson River Park...
