Barefoot Contessa Settles Into Upper East Side Co-op

by | Aug 29, 2016

Ina Garten, better known as Barefoot Contessa has purchased a cozy two bedroom, three bathroom Co-op in the Upper East Side at 563 Park Avenue, The Lancashire. Even though the unit is listed at only 2,450 square feet, the pictures paint a different view of a much larger apartment.

The original listing price was $4.75 million, and it looks like Ina and her husband Jeffrey settled at a purchase price of $4.65 million. The apartment was remodeled from top to bottom, and, based off the listing pictures, the money was spent in the right places.

One of the many amazing features of this apartment is the floor to ceiling library. The photos make you just want to sit down and enjoy some quiet time within the room; it appears to be a very peaceful and serene setting.

Besides the library, the rest of the apartment also has ten-foot ceilings and plenty of windows that allow an abundance of natural light throughout the day. The 19 by 36 living room provides a great entertaining space, which is quite impressive.

The kitchen received special attention during the renovation which obviously didn’t hurt in the decision-making process for a celebrity chef.

While the price per square foot is fairly reasonable at just under $1,900 per square foot, the monthly maintenance charges are $6,800 per month for under 2,500 square feet. That type of monthly maintenance fee is a little higher than expected for an apartment that just sold for under $5 million.

The building has onsite storage available and is pet-friendly. With elevator access and full-time doorman, 563 Park Avenue is another desirable pre-war building that has twenty units spread out across thirteen floors.

For those days where you wish to explore the outside world, Garten also has easy access to Central Park as well as high-end shopping and restaurants. In a city that is filled with foot traffic and taxi cars, 563 Park Avenue seems like a perfect oasis away from the hustle and bustle of the great New York.
