Pratt Institute’s Sculpture Park
Known as one of the best college art exhibits in the country, this sculpture garden is the largest in the city. While a few installations are permanently placed, some of the sculptures are constantly changing. The park features a variety of artists, including Richard Serra, Donald Lipski, and Mark di Suvero.
Brooklyn Academy of Music
Built in the 20th century, BAM turned Fort Greene into a desirable destination for culture and history. BAM is known to host many cultural events, including opera, film, visual arts, dance, and music. Currently, BAM is presenting Shakespeare on Screen, BAMcafé Live (bonus alert: it’s free on Friday and Saturday nights), Next Wave Art, and much more.
BRIC Arts Media House
BRIC is focused on presenting exhibits with contemporary art, performing arts, and video that reflects directly on the culture and history of Brooklyn. Supporting local artists and media makers, BRIC is determined to invite educational and public programs through low-cost exhibits. They’re currently hosting a JazzFest Marathon this weekend and will host a Poetry Slam on the 27th.
The Brooklyn Navy Yard
The Brooklyn Navy Yard is a great spot for all the history lovers. The Navy Yard was built in 1801 by President John Adams who focused on protecting commerce and defending what was then known as a very young nation. The public now has access to Building 92, which is where the Navy Yard is celebrated. There are tons of tours, exhibitions, archives, and public programs.
