Midtown East: 2016 Neighborhood Guide

by | Jun 7, 2016

An abundance of cultural attractions with the convenience of being located in the heart of Manhattan, Midtown East is an extremely attractive spot to inhabit. Along with being perched loosely between the East River and Madison Ave., and within 59th St. and 34th St., Midtown East is an ideal area for busy days and quieter nights.

headerAccessibility: With Grand Central Terminal at its disposal, Midtown East most certainly does not lack in transportation. Many commute from as far as Connecticut into this historical landmark. To travel vertically within Manhattan, the (4, 5, 6) trains are frequently available. The (N, Q, R, E, M, 7) trains run horizontally all throughout Midtown East. When using busses, the M101, M102, M103 all provide North and Southbound transportation while the M34A-SBS and M34-SBS provide East and Westbound transportation within Midtown East.

Lifestyle: Mirroring the vibrancy of a trendy downtown area, Midtown East bustles with people day in and day out. The only difference is the relative calmness at night when juxtaposed with the constant party atmosphere of downtown Manhattan. Something that also varies is the composition of residents. Along with a plethora of long-time residents, newcomers are also sprinkling in. Additionally, there has been an influx of new luxury buildings and extraordinary co-ops to accompany the affordable walk-ups. These all surround the many office buildings that line Park Ave.

Restaurants and bars: Whether you are in search of some upscale tzatziki or a homey Mexican meal with some tequila to follow, you will find many evening and nighttime venues for your gastronomical excursions. There is also a myriad of bars in the neighborhood – both espresso and alcoholic! In contrast to the extravagant supper venues, there are much more affordable breakfast and lunch spots.

Cost of Living: As previously mentioned, there exists a wide variety of apartments in Midtown East, resulting in a range of rental and sales prices. However, the average two bedroom costs a mighty $3,725/mo. With this price comes the flexibility of living downtown, upscale restaurants just outside your door, and a peaceful evening atmosphere.
