Although Midtown West is the 61st safest neighborhood in NYC, crime rates have plummeted in the area. Car thefts are down 92% and burglaries are down 85%. Major crime is down 21% from 2008, leaving the neighborhood with 209 crimes per 10,000 residents.
Murders in Midtown West also fell 75% since the height of the neighborhood’s infamy in 1993, whereas rapes have been on the rise since 2001, with 10 reported in 2010. The biggest criminal issue in the area is grand larceny so lock your doors and stay close to your electronics and jewelry.
