Spring is almost here, and this month we’re seeing opportunities to get outside, find inspiration to spruce up your home, and savor the final days of chilly weather, too. The turn of the season brings a time to refresh, so take this month as an opportunity to try something new and explore the city we all love.
Here are some of the events we are looking forward to the most this month in New York City.
Public Art by Women in NYC Parks – All Boroughs
Visit your local parks as the weather warms up and as winter comes to an end. New York City parks will be celebrating Women’s History Month as they showcase women artists. Enjoy the weather with your friends and family as you admire new pieces in familiar places in this city-wide temporary art exhibition.
Participating parks include Riverside Park on the Upper West Side, Fort Greene Park in Brooklyn, Rufus King Park in Queens, and many more. Visit the NYC Parks website to see if your local park is participating this month and begin the start of spring outdoors!
All month long
Science Fiction Film Festival – Astoria
Now in its eighth season, the Phillip K. Dick Science Fiction Film Festival celebrates the works of filmmakers who explore the eerie, strange, and unconventional. The five-day festival will take place at the Museum of the Moving Image and was established to show audiences truly unique films they may not see elsewhere.
The festival will feature short films, experimental pieces, feature films, as well as two virtual reality short films where viewers can fully immerse themselves in the stories being told. Featured filmmakers this year include Nathan Hong Fisher, Lewis Rapkin, and Izzy Ezagui.
Art on Paper – Tribeca
Experience a one-of-a-kind art exhibition at Pier 26 where you can see a collection of paper art across 100 galleries! The exhibition is an exploration and showcase of paper as a medium, setting it apart as an art show unlike any other in the city.
Enjoy refreshments from the bar staffed with local award-winning bartenders and baristas as you roam the galleries. Each piece is intricately detailed and masterfully created, so take your time with each piece, slowing down from the usual hustle and bustle of the city.
Making Brooklyn Bloom 2020 – Prospect Park
In preparation for spring, bring your green thumb to this gathering of gardeners of all experience levels. Dive into the ins and outs of composting, how to save the bees of New York, and explore the fascinating world of carnivorous plants.
Registration begins at the Palm House at the Washington Avenue entrance of the Brooklyn Botanical Garden. The remainder of the day takes place in various corners of the garden, allowing you to both learn and explore during this excellent start to the spring season.
Architectural Digest Show – Midtown West
Have you been thinking about giving your home a spring refresh? Don’t know where to start and need some inspiration? Delve into a four-day convention full of design, art, shopping, and festivities hosted by Architectural Digest.
Over 400 brands will be participating by hosting seminars, demonstrations, and showcasing current and upcoming products. Massive brands will make their appearance alongside smaller independent producers, giving you the opportunity to find the perfect piece for your next home upgrade.
