Welcome to the second month of the decade! While January may be a time to focus on ourselves and our own goals, February is a time to connect with the people and things we love. Of course this is the month of Valentine’s Day, so take the opportunity to fall in love with NYC and what it has to offer.

Oscar Nominated Short Films – All Boroughs

With the 92nd Annual Academy Awards just around the corner, now is a great time to catch up on nominated films you may not have seen. Many of the big pictures are still in theaters now, but the short films are not as easy to come by.

Theaters across the city are screening both the best live action and animated short films of the year that are competing to win the Oscar this year. Take time to appreciate the wide range of styles and genres of these short films that you may have missed this year.

One Day University – Upper East Side

For those who never stop learning, the 92nd Street Y is offering an opportunity to go back to class with some of the nation’s top professors. Themed around the topic of genius, this three-pronged event discusses the particular genius of Marie Curie, Albert Einstein, and Frederick Douglass.

Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show – Hell’s Kitchen

Love is in the air for our furry friends. Since 1877, the Westminster Kennel Club has been hosting the best of the best at this annual dog show, attracting champion pups and their owners from around the nation.

So while it may be too chilly to hang out at the local dog park and doggie-watch, you can still get your fix this winter at Pier 94.

Harlem Fine Arts Show – Harlem

Now in its 11th year, the Harlem Fine Arts Show brings together contemporary artists from around the country and the world to celebrate their art and the African Diaspora. An impressive showcase of art is available for display and purchase across this four-day event.

Beyond art, the show will highlight the achievements of local activists, businesspeople, and professionals with showcases for African Americans in medicine, engineering, and more.

The Orchid Show – The Bronx

Take a break from gloomy winter weather by heading to the New York Botanical Garden for a kaleidoscope of color. Famed floral designer Jeff Leatham is bringing his vision to the 18th annual Orchid Show at the garden, showcasing beautiful orchids of many colors.

Color will be at the forefront of the many exhibits this year, dazzling you as you explore the bouquets of flowers, archways of greenery, and maze of vines. This will surely be a welcome escape from the grays of February.

Kosher Food & Wine Experience – Chelsea

Looking to spend more time exploring the world or learning more about other cultures in 2020? The New York Times Travel Show promises to be the biggest gathering for the travel industry and consumers in North America. Exhibitors from over 700 countries will gather for performances, talks, games, and panels all about travel.

Explore the 16 different pavilions dedicated to cruises, adventure trips, LGBTQ, and regional travel, all offering both education for upcoming travel and entertainment the day of the event. So while it may feel like you’re trapped in snowy NYC this winter, don’t miss this opportunity to let your adventurous spirit soar.

New York Dance Festival – Midtown

Ballroom dance bursts to live in late February in Midtown Manhattan. The New York Dance Festival invites dancers to a range of competitions over four days in a variety of dance styles. You can enjoy as a spectator and attend a series of panels about ballroom dance by experts from around the world.
