If your family has decided to do Seder dinner out and about in New York this year then check out these gems for some delicious Passover food.
1. Balaboosta- 214 Mulberry Street
Straight from the restaurant’s website we know that the name means the perfect housewife, homemaker, wonderful mother, cook & gracious hostess in Yiddish. Well I don’t know about you but that instantly makes me want to eat here. Balaboosta’s Seder dinner is only offered on April 6th at 6:30pm. The meal is served family style and guests can enjoy such treats as Duck Matzoh Ball Soup and Beef Brisket. This restaurant and more specifically this meal are both very highly rated making it worth the $180 prix fixe. Keep in mind Balaboosta is not a Kosher restaurant so the meal will not be Kosher. There are only 55 available seats for this meal so if you’d like to attend with your loved ones, you better reserve now!
2. Toloache- 251 W 50th Street
If you’re looking to break with convention this Passover then you should definitely try Toloache. This Mexican restaurant is bringing traditional Jewish elements into modern Latin food. Instead of your Bubbe’s brisket you can have brisket tacos. For those of us who aren’t big fans of gefilte fish you can try guacamole with smoked white fish instead. There is no prix fixe here, so you’re free to order small plates and entrees. The beauty is that you can get this menu from April 3rd through April 11th.

3. Kutsher’s pop-up- 44 W 63rd Street
A pop-up is an establishment that can be open anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of months but is not a permanent fixture. Kutsher’s was a Jewish bistro that was famous for it’s upscale Jewish fare. It was tied to the resort in the Catskills by the same name. Unfortunately this gem closed in August 2014. Luck for us, for two nights only, Kutsher’s will make a comeback in the Empire Hotel (inside Ed’s Chowder House). April 3rd and 4th for $89 ($49 for kiddies under the age of 8) you will be able to enjoy traditional chopped liver (chicken & duck), Matzoh ball soup, Gefilte fish, crispy potato latkes and much more. There will be tons of food so don’t worry about coming home hungry after this experience.
4. Abigael’s- 1407 Broadway
A Kosher restaurant, Abigael’s will be serving all of your favorite Passover foods from April 3rd-11th but will also offer traditional Seder’s on April 3rd and 4th. $130 prix fixe for adults and $75 per child under 10, this meal is well worth the cost with a wide variety of delicious treats. Don’t miss the Chicken Rouladen or the Slow Roasted Short Ribs entrees, but make sure you save room for the Chocolate & Hazelnut Tower for dessert or you’ll regret it. Abigael’s can accommodate over 350 guests over 2 floors so if you have a large group for dinner this is the place for you.
5. Joe & Misses Doe- 45 E 1st Street
This restaurant has a fun atmosphere. You will get a nice mix of a traditional and a modern experience here. Every table will get a Seder Sampler plate with maror, charoset, parsley, and fried matzo to start. You can even perform your own Seder service at your table if you like, but be aware that the food service will not be able to be timed with your religious service. Chef Joe will be serving both Matzoh ball soup and Brisket. Enjoy a Elijah’s Punch (rum, red wine, Manischewitz, apple cider, lemon) or any other beverage as a full bar will be available. Guests will get a 4-course meal for $80 prix fixe no including tax, tip, or beverages. There is no special price for children. The Passover menu will be available for 3 nights, April 3rd-5th.
