When applying for an apartment in New York City, it may feel like no matter how much paperwork you scrounge up, you are always missing something. Let’s end that frustration once and for all with a list of required documents needed to rent an apartment in NYC:

1. Information for your Application
– SSN, employer’s address, bank account numbers, names and contact information of previous landlords

2. Employment Letter
– Stating your position, salary, and length of employment
– If self-employed, a letter from your CPA that states your income

3. Bank Statements
– Last two months

4. Pay Stub
– Last three months

5. Tax Returns
– Last two years

6. Photo ID
– No mug shots, please!

Although this seems like a lot of work, it is well worth it to be extra prepared when your dream apartment comes up. Most landlords run on a first-come-first-serve basis, so having your paperwork handy means you are one step closer to landing your first choice of apartments!
